I was walking back to my car from a lunch meeting and saw a cash out voucher in the parking lot. This was not the first time coming across a discarded voucher. You might be surprised to learn that this happens quite often. Sure they're usually a very small amount, as this one was, but have you ever wondered what happens to the money from cash out vouchers when they're not redeemed?
Here in Las Vegas, as in other parts of the world these cash out vouchers are ubiquitous with gambling since the casino industry replaced real coins with tokens, and tokens with tickets. Gamblers everywhere have cashed out, collected as mementos, left behind or even lost these printed promissory notes from the various gaming establishments they’ve been to. Sometimes they’re the equivalent of small fortunes after hitting a jackpot, and sometimes they’re just a couple cents. In the gambling business, where the house always wins, you’d be surprised where the millions of dollars annually in uncollected money ends up.
